Sanctus
Exploring identity through faith and pop culture by combining traditional iconography from Catholic prayer cards with pop culture icons to create secular saints that reflect a new personal mythology. Through this series, Sabina reflects on her experience as a first-generation immigrant, what it means to be American, and the people and characters that helped her to assimilate and eventually individuate and accept her place as an outsider. The paintings and accompanying prayers were featured in Sanctus- A Pop Culture Prayer Book, a short-run art book released in 2020.
